1997 settlement (page 2 of 12) of a lawsuit filed against PETA by Huntingdon Life Sciences. PETA agreed to abandon its unethical campaign against Huntingdon and return items stoilen by PETA employee Michele Rokke while she posed as a Huntingdon employee for two years. The forced shut-down of PETA's campaign pre-dated the founding of the violent SHAC ("Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty") organization by two years. SHAC activists would go on to openly terrorize Huntingdon employees, clients, and contractors -- sometimes resorting to physical violence and death threats in order to get their point across. Huntingdon Life Sciences uses animals in a small portion of its research work aimed at curing cancer, AIDS, Parkinson's Disease, and several other illnesses.
